St Vincent De Paul Dual Language Immersion Catholic School - Salem, OR

St. Vincent de Paul School (SVDP) has served the Salem community since 1925. Responding to a trend toward a larger Hispanic-Latino demographic and research that supports the extraordinary benefits of bilingual education, the school pivoted to a Dual Language Immersion educational model in 2020.

St. Vincent de Paul School, inspired by the Catholic faith, provides students an academically innovative, joyful, and engaging, comprehensive dual language education. They prepare students to become bilingual, biliterate, and multicultural learners who proudly exercise faith, knowledge, respect, and commitment to the community. The school serves students and families from diverse populations and diverse socioeconomic means. This diversity serves the mission of the school effectively. While the school’s operating budget is driven by tuition, approximately 80% of the families need tuition assistance. Some of this tuition assistance is currently provided through existing grants and donations; however, there was a gap that needed to be addressed. With a competent grant writer on staff, SVDP could work towards ongoing support through the myriad grant opportunities available and minimize this gap. The goal is to secure annual grants and donations to support all families who want to attend but are unable to do so because of economic need.

The JTMF Foundation is excited to partner with SVDP to create this new part-time grant writer position which will help build financial stability for the school long-term and ultimately allow many children to attend who otherwise would not have been able to.
