Expansion of the clinic was needed to help lessen the wait list and provide more critical services to the community at the Starfish Youth Therapy Center.
Waterfall Clinic - Coos Bay
The Starfish Youth Therapy Center, which houses Waterfall’s Autism Therapy Program and children’s mental health therapy services, opened in May 2021. It filled a huge void for autism and developmental disability services in this rural community. Starfish is an outpatient clinic providing multi-disciplinary autism therapy and children's mental health therapy. The Waterfall Autism Program within Starfish services youth ages 3-21 with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis. Therapy services offered include Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, and Applied Behavior Analysis. Autism therapy supports each child's independence, development, and wellbeing. Staff at Starfish believe in a team approach between providers, patients, and their families - emphasizing effective communication and individualized strategies for each child and young adult.
With a high waitlist for both programs, there was a critical need to remodel the facility adding three additional treatment rooms and office spaces for the confidential service delivery at Starfish. The addition of these spaces will allow Waterfall to move an expected 75 children and youth off the waitlist and into treatment by current providers and new providers anticipated to onboard in the future.
We’re pleased that thanks in part to support from the JTMF Foundation, Starfish and the Waterfall Program are now able to support more children and their families in Coos County.
